At Onsite Diagnostic Imaging, our Vascular Ultrasound services offer a safe and painless way to assess blood flow in arteries and veins throughout the body. Using high-frequency sound waves, vascular ultrasound helps detect blockages, clots, narrowing, and other abnormalities in the circulatory system—without the use of radiation or contrast dye.
What Is Vascular Ultrasound?
Vascular ultrasound (also called Doppler ultrasound) uses real-time imaging to evaluate:
-
✅ Carotid Arteries – To check for narrowing or plaque buildup in the neck arteries that supply blood to the brain.
-
✅ Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) – To detect blood clots in the legs or arms.
-
✅ Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) – To assess blood flow in the limbs.
-
✅ Abdominal Aorta – To identify aneurysms or blockages.
-
✅ Venous Insufficiency – To diagnose vein valve dysfunction and varicose veins.
Benefits of Vascular Ultrasound
-
✅ No radiation exposure
-
✅ Non-invasive and painless
-
✅ Real-time blood flow visualization
-
✅ Accurate detection of vascular conditions
What to Expect
Vascular ultrasound is typically performed by a registered vascular technologist and takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area being examined. You may be asked to change into a gown and lie comfortably during the procedure. The results are reviewed by a board-certified radiologist and shared with your physician for timely diagnosis and care planning.
